"DogeMiner 3" Steam & others release info (updated by rkn)[]
It has officially been confirmed by rkn that the Steam release (+it will come to additional stores shortly after, Steam is simply #1) of Dogeminer, internally known as Dogeminer 3 - the next iteration of the Dogeminer saga, is coming. Date is still unknown, previous attempts at guesstimating the time of release has failed admirably (arguably), there is no single entity to blame, it has been more akin to a lot of unfortunately timed events one after another. And, you know, this stupid bat from china thing. But rkn assures you that the game will release, and would quote that Japanese developer who said something along the lines of "a delayed game is better than a bad game".
"Just as it's predecessor, it won't be a 'sequel' to Dogeminer 2, but a sort of remake + a lot of new content and features. As I'm learning more about development, it makes sense to improve upon my magnum opus in order to learn as much as possible with lower risk of a total failure. This time as an actual game in a store! I'm super excited, there's tons of plans, ideas and even alternative plans, some wants, some maybes and many unknown variables. I've gotten tons of feedback & suggestions on our very friendly Discord server (SFW & PG!), which recently broke 10k members - so amaze!" — rkn, October 2021
With the new iteration of Dogeminer comes new locations, somewhat rewritten story-telling and revised interaction with characters, refined modules and UI directly from Dogeminer 2: Back 2 The Moon™ (most of the code was used as a base for Dogeminer 3, although a lot of rewriting and overhauls were & are still needed), improved graphics (extent unknown, way more WebGL fanciness at least...), brand new features such as salvaging an item, basic crafting & improvements and much more related to items and stats, achievements (in Steam too!)...
And that's just some of the plans for the initial release! The game will receive bug fixes, content updates, potential features that barely made the cut - as soon as they can be. For example, the story will need some "additions" post-release in order to properly conclude, as well as updating the travel and location modules to be capable of outside-solar system-travel to infinite locations (hopefully), and various minigames + bonuses that you will be able to play & gain along the way.[]
For now we'll simply have to wait and see what the end product ends up being. The final Steam price is also unknown, rkn has said that he's considering something in the US $ 14.99-19.99 range, but this could come to change. On stores with lower takes (Steam: 30% of everything), the game will be equally cheaper, rkn said. But for now, the cheapest way is still to join a Patreon tier that has a Steam key(s) for a month. They will get sent out to everyone who has ever pledged for a key (and paid!) as the release approaches. These tiers will also become unavailable as time looms closer.
All that said, Dogeminer 2 is still being updated here and there (and might see more content updates along the road, as it is still a well liked and much played game, rkn told PC Gamer in an interview in mid-2021).
rkn thanks all his generous patrons and other shibes for their enormous generosity as well as continued patience! <3
